I started by scanning many family photos myself. Cost of scanner upgrade, time learning the ropes, and time doing the scanning all add up pretty quickly and can get in the way. I ultimately had the bulk of my scanning done professionally. Going in with other family members on the cost of a professional bulk scan can make sense as then some additoinal scattered family photos get shared. This can also potentially free up some photos being held captive by other family members with good intentions, but not enough time to do the scanning. I have become convinced that consistent quality and cost of professional scanning is not a bad way to go. Perhaps a bit mmore costly, but at least it gets done and family photos are pretty valuable.

Nice Adam! It's too bad I didn't have a friend working at Avid and even begin to think about using their solution. D'Oh. I bet that the suite is more stable and integrated than the Roxio stuff. Feel free to do some blogger outreach with gift-wrapped product. We'd be happy to do some free reviews :)
